Hide from the Villain Tips and Tricks
This collection organizes 48 actionable strategies into three categories — fundamental, advanced, and hidden — so you can find techniques that match your skill level.
Fundamental Tips (Every Player Should Know)
These basics form the foundation of every successful round.
Movement and Positioning
- Sprint only during the head-start period. Once the hunt phase begins, switch to crouch-walking. Sprinting reveals your position across an entire room.
- Move perpendicular to the Villain's suspected path. If they are searching north-to-south, move east or west to escape their sweep zone.
- Change elevation when repositioning. Going up or down a floor is the single most effective way to break line of sight.
- Use the crouch button (C) constantly. Crouching reduces your detection radius significantly. There is almost no reason to stand upright during the hunt.
- Learn three hiding spots per map minimum. Having options prevents defaulting to the same spot, which Villains quickly learn to exploit.
Sound Management
- Jumping is louder than walking. Avoid jumping unless you need elevation.
- Interaction sounds (E key) travel through walls. Enter hiding spots only when the Villain is far away.
- Wooden floors amplify footsteps (House, Forest cabins). Adjust movement speed based on surface material.
- Avoid water puddles (Forest map) unless using Silence Field — splashing sounds carry at medium range.
- The Villain can hear you open doors. On maps with doors, wait for the Villain to open one elsewhere before making your move.
Temp V Fundamentals
- Never use Temp V in the first 20 seconds. The Villain is still doing broad sweeps. Your charges are too valuable to waste early.
- Speed Boost is the most versatile ability. It works as both an escape and repositioning tool. Default to it until you master ability management.
- Invisibility does not make you completely undetectable. Proximity detection and certain Villain abilities can still reveal you. Use it to break line of sight, not stand in front of the Villain.
- Decoy placement matters. Place decoys in spots the Villain has not yet checked — fresh areas are far more convincing.
- Silence Field is the best repositioning ability. Pair it with crouch-walking to move through dangerous areas nearly undetectably.
Game Mode Tips
- Start in Classic mode to learn maps and mechanics before Teams or Ranked.
- In Teams mode, spread out. Clustering means the Villain only searches one area.
- Ranked rewards consistency. Surviving 80% with basic strategy outranks 50% with flashy plays.
- Play Villain rounds actively. Finding hiding spots as Villain transfers to Hider gameplay.
- Do not leave ranked early. Observing survivors teaches you hiding spots for free.
Advanced Tips (Intermediate to Expert)
These techniques require solid fundamentals.
Hiding Strategy
- The two-spot rotation. Hide in spot A for 60% of the round, then reposition to a distant spot B. The Villain will not expect a late move.
- Hide in already-checked areas. After the Villain clears a room, wait 15 seconds, then re-enter a different spot. Villains rarely double-back.
- Use verticality aggressively. Rooftops and overhead structures are underutilized. Villains search horizontally first, vertically last.
- Avoid hiding near other Hiders. If a nearby teammate is caught, the Villain checks your area next. Distance is safety.
- Face the room entrance when hiding in a closet. Seeing the Villain enter helps you decide whether to use Temp V.
Temp V Mastery
- Chain abilities for maximum effect. Silence Field to approach, then Speed Boost to enter — combined repositioning is nearly invisible.
- Track the Villain's Temp V usage. If they burned Thermal Vision early, exploit their resource disadvantage later.
- Use Decoy defensively. Place it in your current spot, then move. The Villain thinks they found and lost you.
- Time Invisibility with ambient noise — thunder on Forest, PA announcements on School — when the Villain's attention is diverted.
- Save one charge for the last 15 seconds. Endgame aggression makes an emergency ability critical.
Psychological Tactics
- Be the unexpected. If most Hiders hide inside, hide outside. If they use ground floor, go to the roof. Villains optimize for common behavior.
- Stay calm when the Villain is nearby. Panic leads to movement and detection. Train yourself to freeze on hearing footsteps.
- Use chat strategically. Typing "run" when the Villain is far away can cause other Hiders to move, drawing attention away from you.
- Learn Villain tendencies. After 2–3 rounds with the same Villain, adapt to counter their patterns.
- Spectate after elimination to observe where surviving Hiders hide — invaluable intelligence.
Map-Specific Strategies
- Forest: The waterfall masks any noise — the best spot on this map.
- Mall: The ventilation system connects three floors for movement without main hallways.
- Prison: The warden's office requires a specific interaction sequence. Practice in a private server.
- House: The bathtub (curtain closed) works because Villains do a quick check. Crouch in the far corner.
- School: The gymnasium equipment closet offers a near-guaranteed safe round.
Hidden Tips (Rarely Known Mechanics)
- The Villain's detection indicator is directional. Brightness indicates distance, position indicates direction.
- Crouching near large metal objects creates a proximity detection dead zone.
- Looking away from the Villain in a closet grants a slight detection reduction.
- Some interactable objects have delayed entry. The Mall's vending machines take 0.5 seconds before hidden state activates.
- Temp V charges persist between rounds in the same lobby. Conservative usage pays dividends.
- The decoy mimics your last movement direction — use this for convincing bait trails.
- Ranked matchmaking uses a hidden MMR. Consistent survivors face stronger Villains.
- Survival bonus has diminishing returns. First 10 full-round survivals per session grant 100% bonus VC.
Quick Reference: Survival Checklist
Before every round, confirm these items:
- Three hiding spots selected for this map
- Escape routes identified for each spot
- Temp V budgeted (1 emergency + 1 endgame minimum)
- Sprint direction planned for head-start period
- Codes redeemed for current session
